Thank you for this wonderful model and narrative. However, one clarification needs to be made; in their flights at Kitty Hawk, North Carolina, in December, 1903, the Wright Brothers did NOT use a catapult. Their aircraft took off from a wheeled dolly that rode on a rail which needed to be pointed into the wind, but no catapult was involved. They only started using a catapult when they moved their experiments to Huffman Prairie, Ohio, with their second aircraft in 1904. They did this because their flying field was limited, and they needed to shorten their takeoff run. But even then, before they built their catapult, they did make some flights on Huffman Prairie without it. And I do not say this to diminish the achievements of Santos Dumont, who was absolutely one of the greatest aviators that ever lived.

Thank you for your clarification.
