Recently I have changed all lightbulb at my home to Ikea Trådfri. After this change I have left with two problems: where to put remotes when they are not used and how to prevent other people from turn off light using old switch. To solve both of this problems I have designed this cover that should be suitable for most of light switches over Europe. Now remotes for lights are in place of old light switch and everyone that is used to old way of turn off light is clicking them automatically.
Only thing that can't be printed and is required to hold remote is place is strong neodymium magnet 10mm diameter and 5mm height. In middle there is place prepared for it. It should easily fit in it and keep there firmly.
This model was optimized to print on 0.4mm nozzle. Also cover is mostly hallow so it require small amount of filament. My last print required only 5.5m of filament.
How to print this cover?
You can print this cover in two ways:
- in standard way - this will require a lot of support structures, but finish will be great without additional post print processing, big problems are printing time (around 5h) and big waste of filament on support structures,
- in upside down way - support structures are greatly reduced, they are required only in middle part, outside walls can be printed without it (had only problem with small warping of ABS during print), but finish will require additional sanding.
Both ways of print are visible on attached photo. Left cover was printed in standard way, when right one is printed in upside down mode with small sanding. I was thinking about smoothing finish using acetone vapor (print is in ABS).
