This design looks like exactly what I need. I use a device that takes two rechargeable batteries and I like to carry two replacements. Hopefully I'll be able to get my printer back up and running tonight and I'll print one! Will post back.

That would be great! If you think of any improvements to the design, let me know and I'll make the changes.

Hello! I printed your v4 stl and it won't fit AAs. I printed them out of PLA though and the little interior tongue has no flex for me. I'll try to play with the .scad sometime.

Hi. I can upload a new STL if you don't want to play with the scad file. I read on wikipedia that AA batteries vary in diameter from 13.5-
&
gt;14.5mm. So the diameter is 14.5 in the v4 model and the tongue intrudes 1.1mm into that. Does the tongue have absolutely no flex at all? I can change how much the tongue intrudes, what value would you like?

How did the battery icons turn out, did that work?
Anything else?

Hello!

I measured my batteries at 14-14.2 and the tongue has absolutely no flex printed with PLA. I tried to flex one with needlenose pliers and the tongue snapped. I measured the diameter of my printed part at about 13.6mm, but i'm not confident the XY calibration on my printer is perfect, although most
things printed are pretty close.

The battery design came out, but isn't very striking. You can tell what it is if you look at it for a second, but it's not very sharp (again, maybe my printer is being weird about it.) I'll take some pictures when I get to work. Thanks!! Very awesome design.

I've added a new STL with changes just for your printer. I've scaled the diameter up by 14.5/13.6 so hopefully that has calibrated the size. I've made the tongue thinner too, I don't know if that will help. Also the icon is now deeper so will hopefully make a greater impression.

Awesome!! I've got it sliced up and will give it a shot when I get back home.

Here are a couple of pics of my last one:

Hello! I printed another one and added a photo to the "I made one" section. Works perfectly! The graphic came out a little mangled, but i have a feeling that is because i had the design portion facing away from my fan. I'm going to try another one (hopefully tomorrow over lunch) with it rotated so that the design is facing toward the fan and see how that comes out. I'll probably end up filling the lines on the design on this one in with sharpie. Thanks again!!

Hmm, I like the charge-orientation idea, but I don't like the small capacity and lack of latch. For example, my favorite design so far has been: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002LZWYN8/ref=oh_details_o00_s00_i00http://www.amazon.com/gp/produ...

I like how those completely enclose, hold four batteries (rarely do you need more), and don't rattle due to the ribbing. All that said, I could definitely see printing that sort of enclosure with a bridged living hinge, and embedding a charge-orientation imprint for when batteries are taken abroad
.

Another funky option is to use ribbing-studs so the container supports 3x AA in one direction and 4x AAA in the other. (seen it once, forget where)

I'll certainly make a 4 capacity holder if someone confirms that the above design for 2 actually works. I'll also make one for AAA batteries. The living hinge sounds tricky and I'd guess would change for each printer. Have you spotted any successful living hinge designs on Thingiverse?
