Would love to print these, but can't get Cura to work and Slic3r doesn't want to work either. I have followed steps in other comments on going to object settings and splitting there, but that still puts everything on the print bed and makes all of the heights incorrect.

Has anyone tried printing the layer height or shell thickness using Polar Cloud? I'm not sure what I need to do to print those two successfully.

Tips for printing with Simplify3D - separate connected surfaces, create separate processes and select piece/s for each process, leave top with no shell to see infill, print with continuous layer selecting all processes vs separate processes.

There is an option in Simplify3D under the Mesh tab to 'separate connected surfaces' to allow you to manipulate the parts separately. I've attached an image of the option I'm referring to.

The steps I took are summarised below:

  1. open eg Shell stl file
  2. separate connected surfaces
  3. add process (rename and select the model you want to affect)
  4. add 3 more processes and select the individual models (see second image)
  5. on all processes - have no top layers so that you can see what is inside (see third image)
  6. when preparing to print - highlight all 4 processes

I put it in Slic3r V 1.3.0-dev and split to edit each individual thing. The problem is how do I re-stack(or go back to the original form but keeping the edits) them so they are not spread out.

yeah I can edit the objects by themselves I see the list BUT they are spread out. I read the thing multiple times trying to see if there was a way I missed it. For example, an "O" the little plastic in the middle would be split and set on the bed surface by itself

I'm running into this same problem. Just downloaded Slic3r and started using it, so I'm not sure how to "split" and then put back above the surface where it started?

I'm having some trouble when trying to slice the models with Slic3r Prusa Edition 1.38.5. When I split the model, all parts change their position so that they can touch the build plate. Has anyone figured out what's happening?

I love this idea. Unfortunately, I've hit a stumbling point after printing the bridging and overhang objects. I have an Ultimaker with 3mm filament so I need to generate my own gcode (it looks like this is for 1.75mm printers) to be able to print the ones that need custom setings in different regions of the print. I haven't figured out how to separate the regions into separate objects (I'm most familiar with Sketchup but have some experience in TinkerCAD, Meshmixer, etc.). Any thoughts? If not, I might just re-create the other ones in SketchUp from scratch and then I could have individual objects in Cura to be able to specify different settings.

Have you tried separating the objects using Slic3r? Last time I checked, that one was able to do it. I will double check and see what Cura can do and get back to you.

Thank you so much! Probably worth attaching on the zip, with a README file warning about settings. Fortunately, I can manually adjust the temperature on my printer so it wasn't an issue.

I know right! It's not your browser, I keep waiting for people to post pictures of their prints too but no one has so far :(

Working on bridging one right now, will post a picture when it's done. Have the infill percentage one ready to print when this one is done. It's a little bit of work to get them cut up correctly but I think it's worth it.

On a side note, my anet A8 just did a (fairly clean) 65mm bridge! I was expecting abject failure by this point.

Hi, mind if i ask do you generate the support for both side of the the supports print, then only you peel the support on one side; or you just print the support at one side (left side) in this case. I don;t think it is possible to print the model (right side) without any support as the parts will falls.

I printed it with only half supports. I was also expecting the part to fail on the side without supports, because I wanted the example to reflect what would happen without supports but it came out better than I expected.

You should be able to use the latest Slic3r to achieve the same results. Once you load the STL into Slic3r, you'll want to first split the parts. Then, you'll be able to select each individual piece, right click > Settings and assign different settings to them by pressing the plus sign.

I'm still working out whether it's possible to do the same in Cura. I don't think so yet.

Hello. This is possible in cura using cutting mesh. Create stl model of a simple cube, resize it to fit over the volume which needs different settings and then use per model settings with cutting mesh enabled.

When you printed the "Supports" one, did you print it all with supports and just clear half of them after, or did you slice it so that it only printed half of it with supports?

I sliced it with only half of the supports so users could see what an unsupported side looks like on the bottom

How would I go about recreating this to print on a Creality CR-10s? I have access to Tinkercad & Cura.

I'm trying to determine whether this is possible with the latest Cura. Perhaps not yet, but I'll let you know if I discover a way to do it. If you can get slic3r, that might work. It's also free.

I have been having issues with slic3r gcodes trying to break my printer. It moves way to fast on travels and causes way too many jams. If all you can do is tinkercad, I would not recommend slic3r.

Thinking about it your right. Unless there was a way to change the printer setting but keep the gcode settings If you want maybe upload it as EXPERIMENTAL ONLY. When I get some free time ill try to mess with it.

I believe you can split objects into parts using Slic3r and assign individual parameters to the split parts but I haven't tested this out personally yet.

They are solid because you need to assign the layer height/infill styles/infill percentages/shell settings in the slicer. I used Simplify3D to do separate the sections and assign unique processes to each corresponding section. Hope that helps

Thank you for these beautiful products! Somehow when I load these products in Simplify3D all the texts are mirrored/inversed. This isn't the case when I open the files in Slic3r. Anyone have a solution or any idea as to how this is possible? Thank you!

Hi, as far as I know, splitting an object into parts was not yet reimplemented in Cura 2. You have have to split it in software like Meshmixer and print them as infill meshes.
