You are a genius man. You are pretty much the only one on Thingiverse with such a complex laser cut low poly item. I was struggling with making a polygon project myself. I will probably use supports like you to fix my struggle.

Wasted about a day to find the right support structure xD, the only sad thing is that with this method the structure can end up in being more material than the exsternal faces xD, but at least is easy to create the objects, glad I helped :)

Oh and just wondering did you take another model and made it low poly or did you start out of nothing? How much time did it take to design?

started from nothing, luckly the moon is an easy model, I made it directly starting with poligons, and than chamfering the edges , in the beginning I have tried with a curved model, buy reducing the poligons on the mesh ended up in a no symmetrical model, sure the worst way

Awesome! How did you get the 3D shape. I've been looking for software than can turn a 3D object (e.g STL) into a 'Flat pack' design to cut out and assemble. 123D Make doesn't quite work for a laser cut (works for folded paper). How was it created?

Actually made it from zero with fusion360, first made one solid model then estruded every face like different panels.with an stl actually I think is hard to get all the faces , softwares will always end up in seeing a mesh full of triangles I think

OK, very cool. How did you work out the inner structure and pieces that edges together? Was that all hand crafted?

If for hand crafted u intend software hand crafted the answer is yes, xD , made few attempts

Sorry I didn't write my question very well! Did you have to manually design the internal supporting structure of the moon so the outside pieces would join together? Sorry to ask again, I'm very interested to know how you did it!

No problem :), yeah I had to manually design the support, but is easy, all the angles of the faces are actually the same so I managed to make few different supports
