This coin sorter was designed after I realised I didn't have a way of storing all of my change. This sorter in particular holds coins from the British currency, the Pound Sterling. All coins from £2, to 1p's are held in this sorter.
There is a bit of stringing when you print this model. Try and adjust your print settings to reduce the amount of clean-up afterwards.
How I Designed this
I started of with a need to store all of my coins. Then I realised I could print myself one, despite my beginner knowledge of Fusion 360. I measured all of the coins with my digital callipers and wrote all the dimensions down. Then made a sketch in Fusion with all the actual dimensions and drafted a rough shape.
After I came up with the shape and design of the sorter I offset the dimensions of the coins to give them some space in the sorter. Then I extruded the shape and gave it 3 dimensions.
Then I exported it as an stl file and printed it. 4 Hours later I fitted all the coins except the 50p and the 20p piece. It turns out that I inputed the dimensions in wrong so the two polygon shaped coins were 2 mm out.
Later I went back into Fusion 360 and enlarged the holes and re-printed it. 4 Hours later, I had the second prototype which was perfect. So I jumped back into Fusion, made some finishing touches and now I have my final model.
