Awesome thanks for the upload. the $5 mylar sheets i got (intended for gardening) take at least three layers to get to the 'can't see my hand in front of my face' effect that should hopefully be safe-ish for short periods.

one suggestion is they could use a nose 'dent' :).

Yes, two or three layers depending on the mylar you are using.

In my next update of the design I'll put in a nose 'dent.'

Printed these in ABS on a airwolf 3D printer and they came out great. Suggestions for improving the design:
1.) thicken the bottom rail and add a nose piece contour (keep the lense opening mostly rectangular)
2.) create a recess for the film to sit in
2a.) maybe a two piece design so that the lense material can be sandwiched between them, and the plastic printed pieces snapped/glued together. The mylar seems hard to glue in. Got glue on the lense material trying to place it.

Good improvements. I was thinking of creating a two piece design to sandwich the lens material between, but I decided to forgo it and go with the single piece and simply use adhesive to keep it attached. The adhesive is Goop brand multi-purpose glue. Elmer's Stix-All works quite well, too.

I tried using scotch tape, but it doesn't stick very well.

Can you use any kind of Mylar?

As far as I know pretty much any mylar, but I would use two layers to ensure you are filtering out the sunlight properly. But it needs to be real mylar.

Awesome, Do you have a link for the lenses for Amazon? I'm not sure which one is safe to use.

The prices they have for the solar filter film is ridiculously priced right now. You can buy a 12" x 12" piece of solar filter film from B&H Photo for $25 here. https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1350711-REG/thousand_oaks_optical_sbp1212_12x12_silver_black_polimer.html

Or a 8.5" x 11" sheet for $22 here. https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/buy/solar-photography-filters/ci/34576/N/3537585255/pn/2

What are the dimensions of the opening?

It's about 36mm high and about 150mm wide.
