Can't print this with PLA. Will very well deform while going to hot PCR temperatures.

Which material would you use?

I don't know if you have seen this article on using thermal convection and two fixed temperature plates for a simplified PCR machine.

This technique seems better suited to reprap style 3d printing for two reasons:

  • The cycling is controlled by varying the aspect ratio of the reactor wells . 3d printing makes it simple to create blocks with custom ratios.

  • The reactor wells don't take part in the thermal transfer. Wall thickness and consistency are much less important than in the standard PCR process.

I do have a slight concern though that the 'ribbed' walls will alter the dynamics of the flow.

Here is the new cartridge based on the article. The reaction chamber measurements are accurate, the other measurements are best guess.
