Print Thing TagSummary
This design is a replica of the SGC's Stargate and its ramp. It has been simplified to accommodate smaller printers but remains fairly screen-accurate.
The gate itself has a 117mm(4.6") diameter and has been successfully scaled up to 250mm.
I provide the 123D files of my design if you want to modify it (for example to scale the stepper motor hole in the gear if you wish to print a bigger version).
Assembly:
Please use the exploded views I provided as reference, it is very straightforward.
Electronics:
At the moment I did not write instructions regarding the electronics, but I made a part list and include the arduino sketch if you're willing to attempt it yourself. Note: if you're printing a bigger/thicker version, you could use regular LEDs instead of surface mount.
Parts:
- 7 surface mount red LEDs
- 4 surface mount white LEDs
- 2 or more blue LEDs
- ULN2803 (or equivalent)
- 28YBJ-48 stepper motor
- Any Arduino that fits in the base (I used a mini)
- Momentary switch (I used a lever switch)
- 28 awg or smaller wire
Print Settings
Printer:
Monoprice Mini
Rafts:
No
Supports:
Yes
Resolution:
0.1
Infill:
100%
Notes:
I recommend supports for the following parts, the rest doesn't need any support:
- gate_-_back_x1
- gate_-_front_x1
I strongly recommend using Support Interface in Cura for gate_-_back because it provides a better finish for the symbols to rotate in the rail.
Model gate_-_chevron_amber_x9 is the chevrons lights and should be printed white or clear.
Note for Slic3r users:
It is possible that gate_-_back_x1 won't touch the build plate and you will need to remove 0.1mm on the Z axis.
(Cura and Simplify3D users do not seem to have this problem.)
