I came up with this gift idea for my teenage daughter, a mini hand held "light board". Standard strip LEDs go along the entire diameter of a 220mm diameter piece of borosilicate 3D Printer glass (3mm thick, heat tempered glass - safety). It is best to set up an adjustable voltage power supply, to regulate brightness of the LEDs, which allows achieving the best glowing light effect when writing on the glass with Neon washable marker pens. Note there is a dimmer module included here, which uses an Arduino Pro Mini controller, which provides infinite possibilities. The power supply is 12V, readily availbe with the mating connector which has been integrated into the light board frame design. This light board is useful in many ways, as a toy, a family message board, or even a night light with a message!
The Light Board pictured here, was built using PLA Wood (Hatchbox), stained with wood stain and several coats of Shellac over that stain (don't use Urethane, it will not harden, since wood stain doesn't fully absorb into the material).
The frame is designed to accept a 12V power supply with 2.1x5.5mm plug connector, like this one:
