I wonder if it would work with a Dremel but I'm also considering the impact vibrations could have on the machine...not sure yet :/

Its sturdy enough so that aprupt starts
&
amp; stops can in no ways cause any visible vibrations of the drillhead.

The shape of this is very specific for that drill. It fits it perfectly. I don't believe that those bowdendrillheads have a standardized shape. If someone (unlike me) has a dremel it shouldnt be too much effort to change the scad file (derivaives welcome).

So in order to CNC with this you have to change the Z zero height and basically edit a lot of Gcode? E.g. jumps will have to be at a higher height and bed should go up instead of going down. Any easy way you have in mind to do that? Apart from manually controlling it from ReplicatorG

Skeinforge profiles have an option called "Profile Type" where you can choose milling or cutting. Also there are some dedicated milling g-code generators out there. But to be honest I haven't looked into any of that yet.

Note: With this setup only foam stuff will be millable since It has very little torque. For real milling (at least wood) I am pondering to design a mount for my Unimat motor (12V 35W) which is meant for milling.

Hi I was checking this project and I think I'll work on a derivative...if you're up for the challenge we can work out a laser cutter out there :D

Depending on the size (I've no Idea how big a suitable powerful one is) strapping on a high power IR Laser diode could be easy. But I' am a bit afraid since those are invisible lightsabours that are itching to blind an eye or start a fire. That said the Ultimakers open frame must absolutely be closed somehow with some nonflammable material. Covering the top makes me scratch my head. DONT_KNOW
