I wanted a new rear cover for my Wanhao i3 printer control box to hold a bigger fan than the stock one, and also to move the wiring loom to gain a few extra inches as my control box is under my printer which is in an Ikea Lack Cabinet.
having looked through many on Thingiverse, I decided to design my own to encompass all the features I wanted - Which were...
- Must take the biggest fan possible
- must not stick out the back
- must relocate the printer wiring loom to the top instead the bottom
- must not have to cut or reshape the mains connector
My Thing accomplishes all my goals and seems to work well :)
You will need two 10mm m3 screws with washers and nuts to hold the Mains connector in place, and also the four standard fan screws to hold the fan in place.
I also had to move the PSU back a little further (30mm) inside the case to make way for the wires.
To do this, remove the PSU, and mark out the new position of the four holes, 30mm towards the rear of the PSU case and very carefully drill them out with a 2.5mm drill through just the outer case. The original screws will self cut into the aluminium psu case.
I also had to put a 60 ohm resistor in line with the fan to slow it down a little as running at full power it was quite noisy.
