Have you considered shifting the handle to one of the wheels, rather than the gear between them? It seems like the mechanism would "feel" backwards, in this configuration. I like the general design and its simplicity, however. Nice work on the gears, as well.

Now we know what the Mythbusters square-wheeled truck should have driven on – nothing but speed bumps!

Thanks for the comment, I really appreciate the feedback and suggestion for the design! I definitely see where you're coming from about it being awkward to turn because it's backwards, and I hadn't considered putting the handle on one of the wheels to fix this. I'm not sure if the gears will work well enough to be driven from one of the ends, but I will change it and give that a try when I print it out. I'll get back to you as soon as I do and upload the changes if there aren't any problems!

Cool. I expect it'll work well enough, provided the prints are nice and smooth – which sometimes gets easier with a little break-in use, from what I've seen. You'd probably only have to print one or two extra pieces to try both ways, if you wanted to be conservative.

If it is smooth, a longer 3-wheel/5-gear (or 2-wheel/5-gear) assembly might look nice, to keep the balance.

Wish I could test it myself, but I'm not printing yet. My experience is in design, CNC and traditional building.
