The holes for the 1mm 8mm carbon rods between parts are bigger then 1mm. What do i do with the rod pieces?

Will the plane hold together without the reinforcement? It looks like the ailerons are held together with 3mm carbon rods. Is that cirrect?

Vola molto bene ed è molto veloce, solo che pensavo che sarebbe bello alleggerirlo in qualche modo, in modo da poter fare anche un volo più lento, diminuire i danni in caso di caduta, ed aumentare l'autonomia (mi avevi già suggerito il GASB 1, però questo mi piace troppo xD)
Questo modello secondo me da molta più soddisfazione quando lo vedi volare, e sarebbe bello renderlo più godibile
L'ho fatto anche volare con un flight control (MultiWii modificato da me per funzionare su questo modello) su arduino nano con accelerometro/gyro 6 assi MPU6050 (10€ in totale di hardware), ma ha funzionato per 10 secondi per poi precipitare da 20 metri (credo sia andato in stallo, ma non ho capito bene cosa è successo)
Ultimamente si trovano in commercio stampanti di grande formato a poco prezzo (come la Creality CR-10) che hanno un volume di stampa di 30x30x40 cm...Quindi un'idea per risparmiare peso sarebbe stampare l'aereo in 4 pezzi...Ovvero Ala sx, Ala dx, Canard + Vano, Centrale+EDF, oppure anche solo avere un'ala in pezzo unico sarebbe fantastico (per l'altra poi basta specchiarla)
Poi pensavo di usare un PLA con fibra di carbonio che dicono essere estremamente rigido in modo da poter fare ancora meno infill (se non rimuoverlo del tutto, dipende da quanto è rigido il materiale, non l'ho ancora provato, oppure anche ridurre lo spessore di shell ed infill)
Queste poi sono solo idee, non ho sicuramente la tua esperienza in questo campo...

Vedo che nei tuoi modelli l'Esc lo metti fuori. E' così? lo fa anche un mio amico del campo per mettere una 4S e spingere con la velocità. Questa è sicuramente una modifica che farò nella prossima versione. Per quanto riguarda stampare in 4 pezzi credo che possano insorgere problemi di stampabilità. Per le ali potrei provare se fisso l'alettone con un perno da cm nel lato interno ed un perno lungo che esce dall'esterno dell'ala dall'altra parte. Per il corpo centrale non ci sarebbero piani di appoggio a meno di non usare dei supporti che personalmente non amo. Per la flight control credo sia una bella idea. Il problema è che il posto per l'elettronica adesso è piccolino, Sicuramente sarà una delle cose da tenere in considerazione nella prossima revisione. Altra cosa per la prossima revisione è inserire le centine all'interno dell'ala e non ricavarle dall'infill. L'ho fatto con enormi benefici nel Gasb One. Peso minore e maggiore robustezza. Vista la velocità di stallo un po alta data dal rapporto peso/superfice alare, occorre atterrare un po veloci e se il terreno è sconnesso può essere un problema, sto pensando di mettere sotto alla fusoliera degli scivoli per tenere le ali un po più alte da terra in atterraggio. Si lo metto fuori per bilanciarlo avendo arduino che sposta la ricevente e di conseguenza anche il baricentro in avanti...Inoltre trovare un modo di cambiare rapidamente batteria sarebbe interessante...E l'ESC esterno lo rende più facile...Tu lo metti sopra la batteria giusto?
Sarebbe bello incassarlo nel pezzo centrale, il problema è che li ci andrebbe anche il flight control visto che è meglio se è vicino al centro di gravità...
Per lo spazio in cabina, io ho sempre stampato la canopy senza infill per poi ritagliare la base in modo tale da avere molto più spazio verticale e tenere tutto più indietro possibile, per il resto penso che si possa già con le attuali dimensioni aumentare lo spazio disponibile...
Il sistema a centine sembra ottimo, ma anche in quel caso, se ti richiedesse poco tempo esportare l'ala in un pezzo unico prima di dividerla, sarei contento di provare a stamparla
In ogni caso mi affido a te che hai già fatto un ottimo modello, che per adesso mi sembra anche l'unico valido di questo tipo in circolazione e sicuramente sai cosa è meglio

i hope youve built it but material printed from dictates which glue. for pla i use CA (superglue) for abs id use acetone to bond it together

Very nice modell :) just started printing it...have some problems with the walls, thats why i use 2 perimeters with each 0.2mm width. Because the weight will increase, I wanted to use the 4s motor :) so we will see if everything works like it should :)

Great plan. Have started printing and I'm using Repetier Host and hv tried both Slicer and Cura but can't seem to adjust my infill lines as u are directing. Is there a particular technique to be used?

After the slicing you have to move and move again the object and slice aginain untill you find the right position

i have se same problem as blkbaron. I've use your parameters for sclicing with Simplify3D, Cura and Repetier Host. With yours parameters (schell= 1 and infill 3%, the infill make a second outline somtime on the schell (that increase the weight). Wath software are you using to print ( on screenshot it seem to be Repetier but you speak of Cura below) and wath patern for infill?

So i repaired them over netfabb and it worked well. Maybe u could update this files...if u want i could send the fixed to u.

I’m really fascinated of this plane and started to print one myself.

But I have some issues with the infill. Some of the vertical bars in the wing parts aren’t printed properly and break when you squeeze the finished wing slightly.
I hope you understand what I mean.

I’m using Cura and a Anet A8.
The settings are:

Layer: 0.2mm
Infill: 3%
Speed wall/infill: 25m/s
Material: PLA
Heatbed Temp: 60°C
Hotend Temp: 215°C

I thought about printing even slower and with higher hotend temperature.
Do you think that’s a proper way to get more stable infills?

I think you should test the infill overlap funktion in cura :)
i did it like its written in the manual provided by the designer of this modell. But another thing I did was to print the walls first and then the infill..in cura there is another setting for that

Si Gladio,
è normale che la ricevente, tramite tre canali, comanda direttamente l'ESC ed i due servo. Di solito le schede di volo vengono impiegate nei droni per stabilizzarli altrimenti non sarebbe possibile mantenerli in volo (basterebbe un motore che gira leggermente più veloce degli altri tre che il modello si ribalterebbe). Raramente si usano nei modelli ad ala fissa perchè, non vi è bisogno di stabilizzarli ed è preferibile che gli sticks del telecomando agiscano direttamente sui servos e sul gas.

Un'ultima domanda...Magari è una domanda stupida...La canard mobile può fare da sola da elevator oppure bisogna comunque fare il mix aileron/elevator agli alettoni?

Al campo da me, il GASB di Bologna, lo hanno mixato con gli elevon. Diciamo che diventa molto più agile ed in virata il mix fa in modo che sostiene il modello e la linea che tiene è più bella.

This thing looks great! Thanks for sharing it with us. I wonder if you can help me with something. I plan to print this in future as I'm sort of new to the 3D printing world and I have yet to understand everything. In your 'Thing Details' I noticed you suggested '0.32mm thickness' beside '3% Infil'. Is that referring to how thick each actual infil layer should be? Or something else? Assuming that IS how thick each infil layer should be, will using a 0.40mm nozzle mean that my layers will be 0.40mm instead? Also, can I ask how thick your bottom/outer layers are? Apologies in advance if I have misunderstood anything. I assume this should be printed precisely and should not be overly heavy. Thanks!

if you use cure also with nozle 0,4 you can fix the thickness 0,35. You can also print with 0,4mm thickness fixing one perimeter. Many peaple do this. some weight is handled by the motor

I have always 10 or 20 gr of difference compared to you more the engine and the esc of 65 g plus the lipo has 200 gr 524 + 65 + 200 = 784 gr ... with this turbine to 600 gr of push Do not passat make you how to win it is 200 gr?

Love this design wondering if you can scale it to accept a 70mm edf. I have a couple laying around that i would like to try.

Very big work adapt for a different fan. Under and side by the fan there are tunnel s for cable. Your request needs very long time. I'm sorry :)

You will need to scale, 50mm to 70mm is a rather large change in size, if it were me I'd scale the whole thing up. I'm trying to figure out the right myself.

Yes it is the model that I suggest in the instructions.
Today a friend of mine flew with 4S version. The speed is very high but it is difficult respect the CG with this battery.

yes in this video marco flew with 4s fan the same as you ad linked
for the mounting sequence is not important. i made before the central part
after the two wings and i glue together
remenber to use small rod 8mm lenght before glue as mentioned in the instruction manual

Would we gain any strength advantage using ABS instead of PLA or would that make the weight of the model to heavy?

Do you have pictures and CG information of battery, ESC and receiver location?

The suggested battery must be located more close than possible in the rear of the vane (close to the fan). The receiver is very light and you can put where you want. Also the ESC must be located in the rear to have the CB in the right position (indicated by the semi-ball over the wings)

The GASB Two was designed to fit into a standard 3D home printer with working area of 165x165x165mm (6,5x6,5x6,5 inch)

While ducted fans look and sound neat, they are super inefficient. Would you consider doing a design which allows for mounting a standard pusher prop setup rather than the ducted fan? (FWIW, I've flown many planes of this style of design, all the way back to the Multiplex TwinJet with brushed motors, Multiplex FunJet on brushless, .etc.)

Yes. Today a frind of mine flew with a 3900kv and 4,7x4,7 propeller. I think se have pass 250kmh. The consumption was 45A. But the sound and the line is better with fan.

Out of curiosity, is there any chance you'd be willing to scale this to 70mm? i have a screamer of a fan i wanna try this with.

Your requirement needs a lot of time. With the fan suggested the speed is over 200Km/h. Using a 50mm 4s with 780g thrust instead 580 you can achieve over 250Km/h. Up to now I've not in plane to change the fan dimension. Sorry :)

This is my first large multi piece build. I am using a HICTOP printer with Cura. If I plug in all the parameters you show on your instruction manual, the weight is never the same. I'm using a 0.4mm extruder which is the one difference from the 0.35 mm one you're using. I bumped up the shell thickness from 0.32 to 0.4 and increase fill density until the weights match. I keep having a problem with the center and other parts falling over. I have an aluminum bed with light yellow masking tape on top but am struggling with adhesion on these parts. Could you take a snapshot of all your printer settings basic and expert please? Which of the Apps should I use to slice the files and print?
