A brand new release of the wildly popular Soda Bottle Bird Feeder with a humongous perch for Big Birds. They will be flocking to this one!
If you are keen on miserly filament consumption and to do your share to prevent global warming, choose the three spoke version. It is strong enough for birds, but quite flexy. Kids might break it. The four spoke and six spoke versions are more robust.
In this incarnation, the perch is lowered to the build plate. It is firmly attached to the base so you needn't glue it on. This feeder accommodates birds with longer legs and torsos such as mature cardinals, snipes and the elusive Dodo.
Hang it with this Bottle Feeder Hook, and this new Treble Clef Hook.
October 5, 2018 Update
Added a version with grip, six spokes and no drain holes. This was requested by a maker to feed water to his baby chicks.
May 1, 2017 Update
Added grip to feeder chute for easier removal from the bottle. Prevents breakage when tempted to torque it off by the wavy supports.
This print measures about 145 mm in diameter, so you will need a moderately large build plate.
Add a brim if necessary to stick the perch down onto the build plate. I use 8 perimeters and 0.32 mm offset which just touches the part. Easy-peazy to remove with a hobby knife.
The tan piece is printed from Hatchbox Wood PLA at 200 C. Check out the before and after photos. It sands to a lovely finish, looking like a cross between cardboard and bamboo.
The white piece is printed from ABS at 232 C.
For ABS, give it an acetone vapor bath for additional strength and to seal the layers against moisture and fowl dung.
