About how long has this taken to print?

That depends on your slicing app and machine. Using MakerBot Print with a Replicator 2 takes just over an hour at the recommended settings. However, most other machines will be a bit slower.

Very cool, a creative design nice job.

this is stupid i was looking for trains and found this garbage print out some bleach and tide pods

What's your problem???

And for what it's worth this print is hardly garbage as it's proven to be very popular with thousands of downloads by other members here.

Will this print on an Anet A8?

I just printed on my anet a8, turned out great - set shell wall thickness in cura to 1.5mm, infill to 20%, quarter cubic, 75mms speed, .2mm layer, 4 line skirt.
popped right off, worked great. kids love it

I'm not familiar with that machine but you should be okay if you use PLA and it has a filament cooling fan.

Murray, I haven't printed any of your other designs, but I find that this one, printed the same size as it comes in PLA with 50% infill doesn't have much clamping power at all. I'm thinking about remixing it with a hole in his hind leg, hidden inside the model, that would facilitate the insertion of a spring to help with that.

Thanks for you message. This really all comes down to the amount of leverage that can be applied over the distance from the pivot point to the jaws. I've considered springs previously but always stayed with a one piece print as not everyone is going to want to find a spring to improve the closure. However, as far as the strength of the bite is concerned, the PLA will flex over the length of each part which is a limiting factor. This is apparent when comparing it to some of my other smaller/shorter designs that bite... the bite is stronger.

Obviously it is just a fun thing so not intended to have a really strong bite and that will be hard to achieve and maintain over time as the PLA will lose its tension to some extent.

One last comment, I'm not sure how many shells you used but that can make quite a difference... use 3 or 4 and, if you can change your infill pattern, use linear as this should also help make it more springy.

All the best

I have to say I am VERY impressed by your designs. So much so that it actually inspired me to take a crack at a Z-Ceratops. However, I'm a bit curious about some details:

I designed the a drawing on photoshop. How would I translate this to a 3D file so that I can make modifications using Makerbot or Tinkercad?

If that doesn't work, what programs did you use to create these designs in the first place? They are VERY impressive!

I'm a teacher, so I would love to come up with a few to either give to my students as gifts, or let them try to make their own.

Another great design Muzz!

Great job as always.
Now we need a veloZraptor.

Very nice!
Is there no end to you imaginative creativity.

...I hope not but it is always a challenge coming up with new ideas. Thanks for your feedback!
