@Glasswalker. (cool moniker)
Interested. 10 years of reef keeping. got into 3D printing cos reefs were getting too costly. But my first motivation was to learn how to print reef aquarium parts. :)
looking forward to any updates you might have made.

I am starting out with my saltwater reef aquarium. I have 3d printers and I will play around with this concept and keep you posted :)

Hey Glasswalker ,
Thank you for the update ! I am very interested in this concept and do believe that this could be used along with live rock and that it may seed.
I was successful in starting a print with my flashforge dreamer and flashworks software until the print released from the print bed. If the file could be altered with a flatter base this would aid in creating a solid raft and successful print. The partial print I made was a reduced scale size and looks awesome as you can see the interior cells . I will be attempting to print a full size sample and I will post those pictures also.

Hey, haven't abandoned, for a while I wasn't getting updates from thingiverse... This was only a quick concept, and I quickly realized it wasn't feasible going forward without some major re-work...

More recently I realized an option using gyroid infill, and exposed openings in the skin, plus standard plug sockets would be ideal... But generating from software is tricky. My plan was to make a fully parametric version, that could be generated. But it proved very difficult with openscad.

I've since changed to using Fusion 360 for much of my design work, and it would likely be capable of generating the structures needed... But since I've also moved (physically) to a new home where I couldn't bring my reef tank with me (I moved from Canada to New Zealand). And I'm a long way off from being able to re-enter that particular hobby, this is ultimately paused.

A friend of mine however (who inherited my tank, and has some interest) is picking up this project, and looking to build a large format concrete/ceramic printer that could print actual porous reef rocks... He may be interested in picking up where this left off.

In the meantime if I can find time, I may take a stab at a second version of this for those of you who are interested.

Sorry to everyone for being a bit absent on this design, I hadn't realized it attracted any real interest.

I like this reef rock.
@ previous people commenting: please notice that the file is 99mb, as written in the same line you click to download. Support material can be automatically created by many slicing softwares.

Loading can simplify3d the part yet. When slicing the program crashes :-)
I7, Win10, 32GB Ram, ssd

I would also like to try printing this with PETG but am faced with the same lack of flat bottom issue. Can you please upload a flat bottom version with no overhangs? Thanks.

Tried to print at 37% reduced size, I had issues with adhesion since this does not have a flat bottom. Do you have a version that does not have the internal structure? I would like to try using a plane to slice it (vertical from the first photo) and see what happens.
