This looks like a really interesting design. I've been looking for a custom CoreXY that can handle a large build volume. I'd personally drop the direct drive, and i'd go for linear rails for Z motion, but other than that... this looks like a winner. Congrats.

This is an old version, Current version uses linear rails. but direct drive is the way to go. I tried Boden, to much trouble

PS: are those MGN12 rails, or 9?

I saw the video you posted below, and noticed it did have linear rails, so i changed my comment to "for Z motion". Haha.
For PLA, i still think bowden is easier. But obviously, this is up to preference and everyone sets it up like he or she wants.
I don't know if i'll ever get around to building one, but if i do, i'll at least look at your design closely.

You had the exactly same idea as me.

I am on an economical crisis right now but I am sourcing parts slowly and I had this exact idea where the moving z axis should lift the core xy mechanism and to have a rock solid build plate.
