Nice design , you should have better success with ballscrew for threadrods, there are some good exemples on thingiverse .

Very Nice design! I'm working on my own version of a fully printable printer as well. I think you are definately on the right track with your design though you may be running into the problem of overcomplicating it...remember, the simpler and more elegant the solution, typicaly the less things there are to go wrong.

Plastic printed parts like this are a big deal! This is how the RepRap will become self replicating! Thanks for your work!

Thanks, the big thing that I'm working on is getting rid of the motors and replacing them with home-grown piezo actuators. Getting rid of the motors and being able to print a portion of the electronics will be a big milestone.

You could use a pully system to drive it. I've only seen belts, rack and pinions, and threaded rods as options but you can get something very similer to a belt using just string, and as long as it doesn't ever have to make a full circle all the way around it would never slip.

Maybe dump the screw and print a rack and pinion.

I had rack and pinion on several previous designs. ( http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:9190http://www.thingiverse.com/thi... ) I'm probably going to go back to a modified version of it.
