I am using linear lead screw 8mm 2mm pitch 8mm lead - i set my stepper to 1/16 and set value to 400 in marlin. on checking with ruler is correct, but when printing 20mm cube , i get 16mm height and every 4mm i get a ribbed line layer.. so i have skipped steps ?

thanks

Probably. Turn the machine off and turn the screws manually, if they are hard to turn, try tapping the idler with a hammer to make sure y-carriage alignment true. Or make sure the brass nut is straight in there. If it's easy to turn, up the voltage on the motor drivers.

x carriage is easy to move with the z axis - should i increase current on the stepper ?

Oops, yeah, I meant X. Yeah, try increasing current for Z, couldn't hurt.

What about the other end x motor ?

Check what this is remixed from, their version just uses a huge bearing and the belts end up not being parallel, this remix fixes it
