This adapter can actually be better than the DCA1820 in some situations because it is thinner, and it works with flashlights.

There are a lot of Chinese adapters available cheap on EBay, that don't have the protective electronics like the DCA1820, nor the low-voltage alarm that this has. I wish they would put the alarm into them; I would definitely buy one of those.

This adapter works great in my drill, but soldering the wires and then jamming them all inside the adapter was a pain for me. I guess I need more practice.

This is what I'm trying to do but with a ridgid battery

Hi I'm trying to use a ridgid 18v batery on an 18v dewalt. Do you know if its been done?

Home Depot sells

Everbilt 3-1/2 in. x 15 in. Stainless Steel Push Plate

for around $10, and it has thickness of 0.04" which is about 1mm, just the right thickness for terminal blade used in power tool batteries.

stainless is obviously stiffer than brass, and will not tarnish or abrade as easily.

the question is, how good is the conductance and can it be soldered easily?

I do not think that Stainless can be soldered easily. The Oxide layer on the steel is difficult to remove, and reforms quickly.
If you are looking for a stronger material than brass that can be soldered perhaps Copper, but it is still relatively soft.
I have not had too many issues with the connectors cut from the brass sheet that I used.

Protection Circuit Module PCM BMS 5A for 5S 18.5V Li-ion Li-Po battery 5S5W001

I think these thing will automatically shut off the battery below certain voltage.
maybe better than audible alarm?

Can you share the cad files? I want to make one for the 12v. The stem is the same but the clip location is moved back a bit.
like this one http://www.dewalt.com/tools/cordless-batteries-dc9071.aspx

i dont have the 12v ones as i do not have any 12v batteries or tools... I made this from measuring off the battery

I have added the STEP and IGS versions of the files for the battery adapter.
i created the design in Fusion 360

Very nice job! Keep up the good designs.

Great work! I've been thinking of making an adapter that would let me use black and decker 20v batteries with my dewalt 20v tools, I think it's just a matter of switching the contacts. Regardless, this is a great guide and an awesome design!

harvester45, have you done any work on the adapter for the black and decker 20v batteries? I would like to do the same thing but to the 18V Black and decker devices. Any help would save me the time :-).
