absolutely awesome design.

Love this, thanks so much! I'm curious to know but not curious enough to risk destroying a 15-hour print :-) but can the nested pieces be taken apart and reassembled? From looking at it it looks as though they are ball and socket joints held together by the tension of the curvature and that if I stretch it open they'd come apart. I ask both to understand the geometry and because my daughter requested a rainbow array. Thanks again for the super design!

Hi, no this cannot be taken apart, only each half can be separated from each other, but not the individual shells.

Wow, a 1 hour response on a 5-year old design! You're a credit to the Thingiverse, thanks again!!

Do you have a tutorial or an instructables explaining how to make this design?

Doesn't work I have tried everything but it wont open :(

how futuristic of you!

i have to suggest a downscaled variant.. maybe just the size for hiding a special ring. :)

I love your design, printing one right now in blue. My previous attempts failed because the printer stopped after printing 1/4 (broken filament and other problems not depending from the design). Hope to have one working to carry around the London print show next week ;)

Nice work, and I'll print it.
Can you help me with a doubt?
What is the size of the gap that is used to project moving parts?
Or else, how much slack you used between pins and bushings?
I would be extremely grateful if you can help me, because I'm a beginner in 3D printing.

Hi, the clearance is 0.5mm in the design. I.e. the holes are 5mm diameter and the shafts are 4mm diameter.

oH Yeah!!! TKS many times.

love it! printed great on my rep2x. did each half separate at .3mm /10% infill. 5hours per half. video - http://instagram.com/p/ccmtsJBa_-/http://instagram.com/p/ccmtsJB...

Thank you for the video, did you print out the little catch retainer too? Can you upload on the right please too? Many thanks for printing.

One step closer to some sweet stargate cosplay equipment!

Hmmm, I could also see this leading to a great case design for optical discs. :)

Using a section that is more cylindrical based rather than oval would offer the greatest internal volume for the same xyz footprint, and give you parallel sides. I have thought of using other section shapes to sweep around, there could be some fantastic styles in waiting.

Customizers get programming.

... or the pillbug.

A great name with an obvious connection, our kids call the woodlouse a "Chuckie Pig".

I've been hoping we'd see something else related! It could make a cool mask if it had a few holes in it, too!

You are on to something, there's been numerous people who have picked up the Nested Birdhouse and put it on their faces or on their head as a hat, when I have asked them to guess what it is.

same here :)
a scifi helmet.. or shoulder armor piece.
thx to gyrobot we alredy got derivates in this direction
