I've always been told these are actually bad for guitars because they warp the neck over time. Thoughts?

Thank you for asking, msmollin... I will not do a major research on the subject, but here are my thoughts on this, with a reference which make sense for me.

Since they all sell them like that, even for collectors, i'm not very much affraid...

Plus the tension of the strings is stronger than the guitar's own weight, in the opposite direction : people also use this argument to beleive the neck is solid enough to support the guitar. This can lead us to
think that if the guitar is of poor quality, neck problems could happen anyways...

Off course, make sure your guitar is not hooked on mechanical parts (pegs or others...) because then, it'll be warped (or at least out of tune!)
