Printed this yesterday. I will include pictures when it is assembled. Thanks for publishing this.

Thanks for this model. It is a good idea, and the wire management channels are great. My build is still in progress, but I thought I would provide some feedback:

  • the Arduino holes fit perfectly, but I got a new Tamiya gearbox, and the holes were a bit off. Maybe they changed the design?
  • the Tamiya gearbox comes with a cross-plate to screw into with self-tapping screws. I wound up drilling 1/4" holes for the cross-plate to fit into, along with a couple small guideholes, and I think this worked better. If I get a chance I will try to update the model, but I wanted to pass this on.
  • I wound up using (4) 6mm tall standoffs to mount the Arduino, both to clear the cross plate and to allow the bolts to fit perfectly into the nuts without extending into the gearbox below. The stl files for the standoffs would be a good addition.

Maybe you covered all this in your book, but these are just my personal impressions.

I ended up doing the same thing to mount the motor. Also looking at doing standoffs.

Thank you! I am glad you like the model and I hope you enjoy it! Also, thanks for the update regarding the Tamiya gearbox and suggestion to post a file for stand-offs (will post shortly). I will have to pick up a new box and verify the difference. Could you post a picture of your modification?

Nice looking print by the way!

Thanks! The main plate took two tries. The first with no brim warped a lot, but printing with a brim fixed that.
I just added a few annotated pics to my make. I did not see a way to add them directly to this thread.
