Nice and simple. What type of heater are you invisioning?

Does anyone have any experience printing with MIG tips? And do you think you could get them in sizes like 0.4 +/- 0.02 mm?

Not printing yet... but jcabrer is!

I think the smallest sizes you get it at is 0.6mm, but there are ways to get the hole smaller. I am currently working at a way to get a consistent hole size reduction in order to prevent curling or warping of the extruded filament.

using ptfe as a structural element inevitably causes the hot end to fail, because ptfe creeps under load, and extrusion provides quite a lot of pressure.

The ptfe needs bracing in two directions with a design like this one- the failure mode could be the ptfe bulging, or allowing the hot end to be pushed off the end, or be pushed out of the clamp at the top.

Better off with a metal barrel and ptfe sleeve down the inside.

I am actually worried about the clamp at the top, but I do have a couple of ideas. My repstrap is still a long way from done, and it will give me plenty of time to do stress testing on my hot-end, using nylon filament as test fodder.

Let's see... If 12.7mm is not good enough, I also got some 15mm PTFE rod.

A better way to drill the PTFE is to clamp it in the drill press chuck, and hold the drill bit with a pair of pliers. This makes a self-centering hole.

This is exactly what I am doing... perhaps I should look at the wording of my instructions. ;)

Almost... just vertical, exactly like jcabrer described in the instructions to his Wildseyed hot-end. I do not have a high end drill press either, and my drilling machine is not ideal (SDS with clamping chuck attached) but it still works fine.

It is sometimes surprising how much you can achieve using quite modest tools.

where did you get the nozzle from?

I got the MIG nozzle from my local Builder's Warehouse. Ask at your local hardware or metalworking store.
