Big thanks to Sraf for breaking this down to ender 3 size.
I followed a portion of the Adafruit instructions, but then for electronics I went a completely different direction. instead of all the expensive and complicated programming, I bought a 3$ LED strip from AliExpress with an IR remote. I already have a small USB charger I stripped down and fit inside.
Then to get both the red and blue lights at the same time, I cut the LED strip and then just wired it right back together but swapped the R and B connections. voila, you get both red and blue when I hit the ON button!
infill was 22% gyroid since you definitely see the pattern. looked great but when I turned on the LEDs, it didn't quite diffuse enough so I wrapped some printer paper around the LEDs and that did the trick. I didn't want to up the infill anymore due to weight. I wanted to be able to swing it around without worrying about snapping it.
