Adjusted to 70mm dia and sunk about 10mm below bed level in Cura to create a space for the light (Ikea single cabinet LED with mains power supply)
Thank you so much I LOVE this piece absolutely beautiful....
Printed at 100%
Wow this looks great! A couple questions:
Q: Can you share your support settings? Were there any issues removing the support? I'm still trying to figure the best settings for my Ender 3 so could use any advise and knowing your settings for this print would help as I'm hoping to also make this print.
Q: Your settings mention 100% infill but the picture appears to show ~20% - Can you confirm which you used?
Thanks for sharing your make - It gives me hope that my attempt might turn out alright :)
Hi! In Cura I used 100% infill and ticked 'generate support' and 'build plate adhesion' with a layer height of 0.1. The only other adjustments made were to account for Rigid.Ink PLAs slightly lower temperature settings, ie I think every other setting was Cura's default. So in the pics the stripes inside the globe are Cura's choice of support all the way across the inside, the 100% infill is the wall of the globe which is about 3mm at its thickest part I think...
I was surprised how easily the supports came away - I used a pair of jewellers needle nosed pliers and 'twisted' the layers out from the inside. It helped I'd made a 30mm hole in the bottom, plenty of room to get the insides out... The few tiny bits left at the very top inside don't impact on the light shining through so I left them.
Outside supports came away very cleanly, the brim I had to hack at a bit but ultimately came away without damaging the moon at all.
Definitely make one its really amazing!
