I made the 3.0 version
Wanhao Duplicator i3 Plus
0.3mm layer height
Cura wouldn't slice the neck piece on a 200x200 bed so I increased the bed size to 205x205 in the Cura machine
settings in order to get Cura to slice the stl file.
Another print is in progress - blue with with black neck
What did you use for the rectangular rods? Can you send me a link to what you bought?
I printed the version 3.0 model which uses an 8mm rod for strength
Detailed info here:http://www.hovalin.com/make/ on where to source the extra parts
Thats what I realized too :( So I wasted a print to get the neck done :(
Some useful links describing the rods for the pre 3.0 version of the model:
FYI, for the version 3.0 model, there's a post here where Matt Hovalin also talks about using wooden dowels:https://www.reddit.com/r/3Dprinting/comments/4fi9pb/hovalin_update_the_wooden_dowels_worked/
