I got a used OrangeRX DSM2/DSMX JR module (#24656) from RCG since HobbyKing is always out of stock. I got the v2 with the antenna connector soldered to the pcb. I snipped off the ends and use a solder wick to get the connector off and then I bought a 15cm SMA antenna extension off eBay ($2). I cut it down to about 8cm and then peeled the shielding off to make 2 ends on either side and soldered the antenna to the pcb. Make sure the buttons are free when putting it together. The wire was holding down the channel ID button so I had to bend it out of the way.
This worked on the first print w/o any tweaks.
A couple of notes:
1) The internal stand-off was too short but everything held securely.
2) The side cut-outs for the tabs to release the module is about a mm too shallow and it gets in the way when trying to remove the module. Rocking it back and forth will make the module come out. I was going to sand/file it down but not worth the trouble, IMO.
3) The antenna housing part sticks out about 2mm so when the transmitter is laid down, it will touch rather than the metal handle.
Thanks for sharing your design!
