Menu display update very sluggish, printer pausing during print

by WhatWouldAnEngineerDo

I have been operating my Ender 3 pretty much non-stop since it arrived at the end of April.

Recently, the menu display became insanely slow to update - usually (but not only) while browsing the SD Card file list - to the point where I often had to stop it from printing the wrong item - or to reselect the desired function off the menu - because I had pressed the button when the display showed one thing selected but the display had apparently lagged by a second or two and I had actually moved the knob too far, selecting something higher or lower than the one I wanted.
One day, the printer started pausing during print jobs, depositing a large blob while it sat there & then starting up again but knocking the part over next time it hit that blob. From there, I had a couple of prints just go all blobs from the start, as if overextruding because it was travelling too slowly.

I found some other threads blaming poor contact between the SD Card and the Sanguino for similar-sounding print pause issues, but I have not found anyone else commenting about sluggish display updates or overextruding issues.

I decided to stop using the SD Card slot (I now print via USB from Cura 4.1.0 on my Windows 10 laptop).
I also reflashed Marlin (TH3D Unified) and reset the EEPROM. Not sure which act may have helped, if either

The sluggish display update definitely went away and I think the pausing while printing went away. (I have not seen it do that, since)

Does anyone know whether Marlin sometimes needs a hard reboot (e.g. for "trash collection")?
Recognize the sluggish display update symptom?
I do not have the Power Failure/Recovery feature enabled in my firmware setup, because I read that it could cause the SD Card to fail and create problems like intermittently pausing while printing. Windows cannot find anything wrong with my SD card when I scan it, but maybe the Sanguino SD Card slot has an issue?

Step step side to side, round and round STEEPPPPERRRSSS!!!!!!!!!

So i mentioned earlier that I was going to compile a guide based on my finding with the steppers in the E3 and my own stepper collection. And that is what I did. Check my original guide for this new and awesome guide. https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:3574369/files. Also added in new profiles for CREAWESOME.

I hope you all enjoy this new information, I will continue to add in more info regarding specific motor models, that I have and that have been tested. I may even go into detail to show how to wire motors in parallel and in series, dependent on how I feel.

New XT60 issue

by ShoulderOps

I've been using my Ender 3 for a good few months now and done a few upgrades including changing the mainboard to a MKS GEN L with DRV8825 steppers and use Octoprint. I haven't had any serious issues with it up until now. I have done multiple 24 hour+ prints with no problems with the this setup with no problems leading up to this.
I visually check everything is OK every couple of weeks just for peace of mind but a couple of days ago I noticed that my XT60 is browning on the printer side of the connection so stopped printing until I got new connectors.. I have just received the new connectors but I thought I would hold off to see what was going on with it and found the issue.
On heating the bed and nozzle to 210/60 for the PLA I use the temperature of the connector steadily climbs up to 140C, it is so hot that the connector feels tacky to the touch. The wires either side of the connector also gets very hot too. Once it is up to temperature and printing it settles down to around 60-70C and behaves itself. I tested it with a laser thermometer that is accurate so I have no need to doubt the results.

Does anybody have any idea on the issue and is just swapping out the XT60 likely to sort it out? I'm a bit confused as to why this would start happening now as I haven't had any problems up until this point. I'm seeing no heat damage on the mainboard connections and other than this the printer is behaving as normal. Any suggestions are welcome.
