Unlocking a step file

by electronron

To unlock a step file all you need to do is draw a circle or rectangle in sketch mode anywhere but on the object being unlocked then switch to 3D mode and select everything.

After selecting everything it is possible to uncheck the lock option when you right click on the object in the structure tab.

Delete the surface you created and save the unlocked object as an rsdoc file.

That's all there is to it.

DesignSpark Mechanical 4.0 (Beta)

by electronron

Has anyone tried the new version of DesignSpark yet?

They altered the appearance a bit and added a few hidden features but not a lot has changed.
It comes in 64 bit version only and will not be offered as a 32 bit version according to the readme file.
The rsdoc files cannot be opened into the current version of DesignSpark.
It's hard to tell if it's running slower because the Windows update slowed my computer to a crawl but it seems slower to me.

Update: got my computer back up to speed and the new Design Spark takes a little longer to load but once loaded version 4.0 performs as fast as version 2.0.
One of the best features added is called blend which allow you to add irregular shapes and blend them together. There's been a few times where this feature would have come in handy.

Since I use a windows 2 in 1 tablet with the 32 bit version of windows 10 as well as a notebook with the 64 bit version I need them to be compatible with each other so I will be sticking with Version 2.0, at least until after the warranty period then I'll upgrade to the 64 bit version if possible.

My tablet uses the Atom Z8350 so it is a 64 bit processor but there must be a reason the 32 bit version was pre-installed instead of the 64 bit version.

New forum where 3D printer owners can help each other

Hi all, I hope that I'm not stepping on any toes.

I currently work in the 3D print industry and one thing that has become clear to me over the last year is that a lot of users will eventually get jaded with just downloading another file that they have come across online (don't get me wrong this is also a BIG plus to the industry!) They are also confused about all of the modelling software available and can't find the time to learn how to utilize them . So many great ideas that never get realized.

I have just started a forum where I hope that people like yourselves can help each other out with their projects, it's extreeemly early days as I have just started it and have yet to make a post. It would be great if there were a place people could go to and ask for help with their project (for free). Those without the modelling skills will benefit as could those who are able to hone their current skills and get involved in other projects. If you like the idea and think that you could possibly help or if you would indeed like to ask others for help then please consider joining. Starting out is the hard part and just getting the first few members could help get it rolling.

Here's the link

At the moment it's a free proboards domain but I will endeavour to upgrade it with extra bandwidth and storage as it grows.

I look forward to hearing your thoughts and maybe speaking to you on the Forum.

Kind regards,
