My experience with 3D printers started with a MakerBot Replicator 2X, and expanded some years later to an Ultimaker 3, after which I soon purchased my own Prusa i3 MK2S kit and, another year later, I upgraded to my latest Prusa i3 MK3 kit. I've been designing/engineering for nearly a decade and a half, primarily with SolidWorks. Mostly (at home) I print for fun, with the occasional, useful item to be sure to justify the expense. My oldest child is a creative type and just got started with a 3D pen, the Scribbler DUO. At work, many a prototype has been extruded out, so much so that we've worn out the Ultimaker 3. But no tears as a Prusa i3 MK3 now graces my desk at work too! (Thankfully it is MUCH quieter than the MakerBot and Ultimaker models)
PLA is my preferred filament, since it prints so well, but I really like TPU as well. I'm excited to try out my new spool of food grade PETG as well. I hardly touch my ABS filaments, and I'm hoping to replace the need to use ABS for the higher temperature applications with PETG. We'll see!
I am grateful for the Thingiverse community - often when I feel the need to design something, I can find someone else has already been there, done that!
