I was born a Maker. My father, like his father before him, built with his hands. They taught me well enough to make a living building decks, atriums and other projects.
What I love, though, is art. From graphic design, to hand drawn sharpie marker prints.
For years, I have been able to make a living building, designing, and drawing for part time gigs on Craigslist and some Etsy...then I met Tristan at a brew pub in Portland. He was working designing all sorts of real, usable items made on CNC machines. From bike and auto parts, to smartphone holders, he showed me a new way that I could combine form and function.
At first I started just borrowing some time on the MakerBot he used for prototyping at his shop. I would come in and print some stuff I found on Thingiverse, try out some of my own CAD stuff, or poke my nose in what he was doing.
I had to have more. I got a deal on a refurbished FlashForge and I think my fate was sealed. I spent way too much time with it. My Portland, dream of the 90’s, multi-part-time-job situation suffered a bit, maybe a lot. My Girlfriend (soon to be wife) was wholly unimpressed. That just made me certain that I could find a way to make a living 3D Printing.
I had never started a business before, I had $0, and a kid to worry about...then I met Dr. Rick on a camping trip with my son. Dr. Rick is a pretty cool dude, and also a Doctor of Chemistry. He was into printing too AND...had a brother who might want to start a new business. I nailed the proposal, and got myself a small investment to start, Fifty Percent Fill.
One day, I want 50Fill to be a huge store filled with all the latest and greatest 3D printers and tech; all being shipped by sentient robots. For now, it's just me, and I am am going to offer some great prices stuff that I like to use...and can afford to keep in stock.
We care about printing and design as much as you do, and 50fill is about making printing at home better and more affordable.
Make it so!
