Yes, polygon modelling and sculpting are mean to be different from CAD, since they are using completely different methods to calculate. However, these differences are also the key that makes them more capable of creating organic shapes and form. One of my first doll design has an internal skeleton system like Dolfie Dream, and this project was made possible by a combination of CAD modelling and polygon modelling. I have used Solidworks to create the mechanical skeleton and Maya for the body shell. If I can only use one of these programs, I won't even dare to think about that project.

Therefore, to learn something different can be a great expenditure for your vision and provides more possibilities to make your life more exciting. After all, learning is never a bad thing to do, especially during this pandemic.
