When I was a young child I took apart all my toys with a screwdriver, have been taking things apart to see how they worked ever since.
I got the octoprint server running on a Raspberry PI 2 with camera and a fish eye lens working with my Makerbot Replicator 2. It is so cool to be able to put my now old printer on the network and be able to remotely monitor and control prints. Basically it is like owning a new printer. Thanks octoprint people!
Swapped out the acrylic build plate for a build plate holder I printed myself, and a glass plate that I had cut and the edges ground down for $10 locally. I just figured out how to get shiney prints using packing tape and glue sticks before, but now with a truly flat build plate there is a night and day difference between the smoothness of my prints before and after. I can't recommend switching to a glass plate highly enough. NOW it is like having a brand new machine.
Next projects for my machine, stiffening the build arms, and adding an out of filament sensor that will pause octoprint.
